Warm and wet this year, just the opposite to last Christmas. So no ice to worry about, just keeping all the results sheets from getting soaked. At 54 runners, it still is a very popular way of spending a Boxing Day morning. I was short of my normal helpers this year so, for the first time, did not get a run myself. The St Dunstan Inn had changed hands just before Christmas, but much to my relief, Jeannette and Keith proved to be most welcoming hosts.

A gathering of relations and spectators volunteered to help on the day. The Rowsons' once again provided mobile marshalling out on the course, Rachel Nolan covered the rear whilst retrieving all the course markers, and a gang of intrepid timers and recorders, including Mark Pass and the senior members of the Wild family, crouched under umbrellas on the finish line.

Julie Rowark came over from Hayfield to record an easy win. The handicappers have been alerted for next year. Neither of last year's course records were broken, Tim Egerton failing by 28 seconds and Rachel Pleeth not quite able to repeat her remarkable 2001 run. However Declan Murray continued his incredible improvement by taking nearly 90 seconds off his last year's junior record. Kim McBride flew round for the girl's record and will be starting with her mum next year.

Thanks to all my helpers, especially Bob Lynch, who took over the timing and results. Thanks particularly to the St. Dunstan Inn for making us so welcome. Have a great year of running.
