Macclesfield Harriers Road Running Page

Road Running Training

There are two regular groups who run from the overflow car park at Macclesfield Leisure Centre at 6:30pm on Mondays and Thursdays. The groups known as B’s and C’s tend to run for over an hour, with the B’s running at a slightly faster pace and stopping less often. Throughout the summer the B’s meet at Teggs Nose car park on Monday evenings for a more challenging hilly run. While the evenings are light, both groups follow routes that are a mix of terrain varying from roads, fields, trails and hills.

In winter the routes are restricted mostly to roads and may involve reps. Both groups are friendly and relaxed and will look after you whether you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran – no one gets left behind!

If you are thinking of joining Macclesfield Harriers or would like to come along and see if it’s for you, then please ask for Jon or David who will be happy to discuss what you want to get from the training etc.

North West Road Relays

/div>Macclesfield Harriers under 15 boys competed in the 2005 Cheshire Road Relay Championships. With this event combining with the North West Championships, the team of Jack Andrew, James Lobo and Stuart Price [photo] came up against stiff competition from leading clubs from Lancashire, Merseyside and Manchester, as well as Cheshire. These 3 boys have never been short of commitment and effort and on a tricky slippery course in Blackpool, they needed to draw heavily on these qualities. From the outset, when Jack led the team off, it looked like something special was on the cards handing over in 2nd spot in the county championships. Excitement mounted as James maintained this excellent start running a controlled yet fast 2nd leg before handing over to Stuart for the final 3 km. Against mounting pressure, Stuart ran an equally impressive leg waiting until the final 100m before bursting away to win the silver medal - a fitting reward for a superb team effort.

The senior ladies finished 3rd team overall and 1st Cheshire team. Anne Farmer started strongly and ran the fastest leg (22:07) for the team bringing the team round in 4th place before handing over to Alison Hartopp who built on this good start with a confident run (22:34) gaining a place and pushing the team into 3rd. Rachel Pleeth took over for the final leg (22:50) and used all her experience to steer the team home in an excellent 3rd place.

Sutton "Six" - 10k

Andy Lamont continued his fine run of form leading the Macc contingent home in an excellent 3rd place in the Sutton "Six" 10k, finishing in 34.01 to record a new pb. Tim Stock was next harrier home in 29th in a time of 37.20. Anne Farmer was first lady in 37.54 (pb) closely followed by Sarah Harris as second lady in 38.13. Other results were Chris Bentley 38.46, Robert Gilbert 38.48, Alison Hartopp (1st LV35) 38.57, Rachel Pleeth 39.53, Chris Harbron 40.24 and Neil Goodman 41.12 (pb).
